No, our founders understood that if the federal government got involved with funding schools that at some point or other, the Schools would become thralls of the federal government and begin teaching whatever the party line of the day was. State and local government-funded schools for generations until 1960-70; then Nixon came out with the Department of HEW began kicking in major buck$ for school systems to use. In no time since a significant amount of money going to our schools came from the Federal Government, the Federal Government assumed it had a right and obligation to know where tax money was going. Then it assumed it had the right to direct money contributed to programs and curricula it approved of. Well, we can see where that lead; it lead directly to that infamous rising tide of mediocrity.
