Is it the duty of the government to preserve a nation's traditional values, or should that be left to individuals?
The values of the nation should be up to the current populous. If we preserved traditional values, many things we view as heinous now would still be in existence (i.e. slavery)

on top of that, the government may lose some of its legitimacy if it's intentionally promoting ideals independently from what the citizens believe in.
