My problem with subsidies for electric car purchases is that it's an incentive to buy a new car. Keeping your existing car can often be pretty environmentally responsible too, since the production of new cars (including electric ones) pollutes as well. Buying a new conventional car may not be as "green," but not buying another car can be. Better yet, let's expand public transportation. Then, over time, maybe many households could have less cars (such as 1 car per married couple).
