What immediate thoughts come to your mind when you hear about migrants risking their lives at sea?

What were they doing on the boat? Maybe they shouldn't have gotten on the boat.

Africa is full of natural resources. What they don't have is any capability to do value added manufacturing of those natural resources. This is a failure of planning and governance.

The economic migration is a result of the economic disparity of wealthy to impoverished ones. Historically caused by colonization of more powerful countries that exploited their colonies.

The US had the good fortune to to win its revolution but one only need to look at our early history to see how the colonies are exploited.

The pattern has continued where powerful countries of course, tilt the balance in their favor, including our formerly exploited one.

These are the kinds of determined people America needs to welcome. Anyone who can survive a 3500-mile boat ride atop a cargo rudder, exposed to the elements, is okay in my book.

Same goes for anyone who can survive the 1800-mile trek from El Salvador to Texas. Give 'em a chance!

Encourage and reward illegal and dangerous activity? That’s foolish.

No.

If you had the power, what one change would you make to prevent tragedies like this from happening?

 @9LR4C5Q from Louisiana answered…1wk1W

It was just an accident, there was not really anything we can do about it now.

More patrol in waters so these people can get as much help as they can.

I find the skilled immigration policy of many countries misses the insight gained from people who are determined to do well in their adopted country. People with drive make the host country better. It is a founding idea of America, isn't it.

All the people in the USA, and the free world should be grateful for the freedoms we have. The world is in a time of turmoil. We need only look at the people forced to flee from desperate conditions. Let's stop and take a look at how lucky we are.

How should the world respond to the repeated incidents of boats capsizing with migrants?

 @9LR84BB from Ohio answered…1wk1W

Stop sending people on the boats to find a "better life", because it's not better if they are dead.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1wk1W

How would you feel if someone you knew was on a boat that capsized while searching for a better life?

 @9LR84BB from Ohio answered…1wk1W

I would be upset, but also that is the risk you were willing to take when you got on the boat.
